The world needs more community
Communities bring meaning, connection and a sense of belonging to our lives: they’re vital for our health, politics and society.
While many people feel called to contribute to communities, it’s not always that simple. It takes time and effort. It can be hard to know where to begin.
Together By Design is intended to help, by sharing proven & practical approaches to weaving community. It's an action research project to gather stories of success and failure in community-building, distil the common lessons, and share them with others.
SOCIAL GOAL
​Make it easier for people around the world to create & nurture healthy communities.
PRACTICAL GOAL
Produce a pattern library and design principles for community design, and help people to apply them.
PERSONAL GOAL
Build community where we are, and have fun.
Why 'design'?
Our design backgrounds inform our approach to creating community. We believe that the toolset of experience design can be useful to community weavers. We also think that community has been overlooked as a solution by designers. By bringing knowledge from other fields to the attention of designers, we hope to inspire and start conversations about community in the design industry.
